Jardim Botânico, or the Botanical Gardens in English, technically a residential neighborhood located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jardim Botânico is situated just north of the neighborhoods of Ipanema and Leblon with located north of Ipanema and Leblon, with the Gávea neighborhood located immediately to the west. Jardim Botânico is located in the center of the action in the ”Zona Sul” — or South Zone — of Rio de Janeiro. The neighborhood’s name derives of it’s one-of-a-kind world-renowned Botantical Gardens.
Jardim Botânico is home to one of Rio de Janeiro’s most famous Rio Carnival blocos that parades through the streets of Jardim Botanico each Rio Carnival. The famous bloco is called “Suvaco do Cristo”, which directly translates to “Armpit of the Christ” due to its location directly beneath the right armpit of the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado mountain.
