Dear Comrades and Friends,
As the seventeenth year of my incarceration begins, I want to
personally thank you for the support you have given my quest to be returned
to Italy. For ten years, many of you have contributed funds, written letters to
representatives and members of the American government, and backed my
request for parole. These acts of solidarity have made a difference the United
States government knows that I dont stand alone in the struggle to win
repatriation. Despite all the work that has been done, both in Italy
and the United States, last year the United States rejected the fifth
request. In August of 1998, the Italian government submitted a sixth that is
currently under consideration. Now is the time to, once again, let Clinton
et al know that you support my request for a transfer to an Italian jail.
During the month of September, after an absence of two and a half
years, my mother was able to visit. We spent five days talking, laughing,
catching up with our respective lives, and daringly planning for a future when we
are reunited. I found my mother strong but frail. My time with her impressed
upon me the urgency of winning American consent to my transfer. I believe
that with a focused and concerted effort, we can accomplish this together.
Peace,
Silvia Baraldini
