Here's some suggestions for great bike trips.
EAST COAST OF NEW ZEALAND NORTH ISLAND..
1. Around the east cape from Gisborne to Opotiki.
2. The old Motu coach rd. Shingle rd from Motu to Opcotiki. Also turn at Toatoa and go down to the Motu river, this is a four-wheel drive track thru the forest and there is a good camping spot by the river. No permission is needed.
3. Thru the Urewera National park from Wairoa to Murupara. There is great camping spots all along the route. Shingle road most the way. There is a Camping ground at Lake Waikariemoana. Also other tracks along the way, ask at the Park headquarters.
4. The old Napier - Taihape coach road. This road goes thru the Kaweka Forest park and over the Gentle Annie saddle. Heaps of good camping spots.
5. Ruahines Forest Park track to No Mans hut. This track goes thru private land and permission is required from the farmer. Excellent track as it goes to the top of the mountain with superb views. Department of Conservation in Napier will see you right in regards to access and keys.
