The 10 Parading Commandments for Rio Carnival 2027

Learn all the DO’s and DON'Ts on parading with a Carnival Costume at the 2027 Rio de Janeiro Samba Parade.

Don't Use your Carnival Costume before the Big Day: Don't even think of using your costume before the parade, at a street party, or on the beach. You may damage or lose part of it. If any part of your costume is not in perfect condition, you won’t be accepted at the Samba School and will miss the parade.
Do not Drink and Parade: The samba schools won’t let you parade if they feel you might pass out or misbehave. They could be penalized by the judges, so don't get caught with a P.U.I. – Parading under influence.
Wear your Costume and Nothing More: Wear only your costume in the warm-up area. Do not wear regular clothes, as you cannot change once there. You will have to leave them behind. Don’t worry; many will be costumed like you on public transport.
Use the Subway System whenever possible: The metro is the most efficient and economical way to reach the warm-up area – "concentração". It's air-conditioned, clean, and safe. You'll surely meet other paraders there.
Get Off at Estaçao Praça Onze or Estação Central: If your school parades first, third, fifth, or seventh in the evening, disembark at Estação Praça Onze. Otherwise, use Estação Central.
Avoid Carrying Valuable Stuff: Don't bring valuables to parade. Use a pouch belt or small bag hidden under your costume, containing ID, minimal cash, and essentials.
Arrive Early at the Warm-Up Area: Arrive at least 2 hours before your school's parade time to find your wing – "ala" – more easily using the instructions on timing provided with your costume.
Be Prepared for Delays: Delays can happen, so ensure to hydrate and eat lightly before the parade. You’ll need energy for the night.
